“Cursillo” is a Spanish word meaning “short course”.
A Christian Cursillo is a short course in Christianity.
On a Cursillo weekend, participants explore the meaning of their faith. They hear others speak about their own faith and practical steps to grow in their practice and understanding of faith. Through a community of small groups, participants discuss these new insights and explore ways to implement them into life. Cursillo is also just fun.
You have the opportunity to get to know others from all over the upstate of South Carolina. As you worship together, share together, and sing together (contemporary Christian music) a beautiful Christian community is formed.
I went to Cursillo in this Diocese in 1985, when I was just out of college. I was looking for guidance and direction in living out my Christian faith. I learned a method of Christian living that encouraged me to balance prayer, study, and Christian service as I strived to follow Christ as his disciple. I also made lots of friends and had lots of fun. I experienced the depth of what Christian community can be.
My experience at Cursillo helped me to grow in my faith in God then and helped me to grow into the person I am today. I encourage everyone to consider participating in a Cursillo weekend. The next weekend in this Diocese is October 18th – 21st at the Gravatt Conference Center, near Aiken, S.C. I have applications in my office.
Applications for the October weekend must be in by September 17th. If you cannot attend in October, there are also weekends in February and June of each year.
