The Journey to Easter: Holy Week

Since Ash Wednesday, we have been traveling the journey of Lent. Now we approach Holy Week, the most holy time of the Church year. It begins with Palm Sunday as we stand with the disciples and cheer Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We wave our palms with the rest of the crowd. But this triumphant entry leads to the cross because before the service is over we have also heard the passion gospel, a preview of the week ahead. June 20, 2009 marks 50 years of Episcopal worship in Fort Mill. Plans are to have a 6:30PM dinner and short program on Saturday, June 20, 2009. Any monetary donations (they are tax deductible) will be appreciated. Any questions, contact Marilyn Fleek at (803) 327-3366. Continue reading ‘St. Paul’s 50th Anniversary’

Want to Know More About Our Faith?

On Monday, May 4th, we will begin a class teaching the basics of our faith and our Episcopal traditions. This class, called “Foundations of the Christian Faith and Episcopal Church”, is a good opportunity for anyone who would like to know more about their faith. It is a good way for long time Episcopalians to renew their faith. It is an opportunity for those baptized as infants to make an adult affirmation of their faith. And it is an opportunity for those new to the Episcopal Church to find out more about what it means to worship and live in the Christian community of the Episcopal Church. The Shack: A Book Group – to be led by Rev. Sally

For a while it seemed like everyone I talked to told me about this great book called The Shack, by Wm. Paul Young. Now I will admit that I was skeptical. But I decided that I needed to read the book so that I knew what all the buzz was about. When I did I was intrigued and quite captivated. The Shack is a story about a father who struggles with grief following the murder of a child. In the midst of this grief, he meets someone who claims to be God. The book is about what he finds out about life, about God and about himself during this encounter. Continue reading ‘The Shack: A Book Group – to be led by Rev. Sally’

Food for the Poor

On Sunday, April 26th, while Rev. Sally is on vacation, we will have the Rev. Clifford Horvath serve as supply priest. He represents “Food for the Poor”, an international relief agency providing food to those in need. Father Horvath will speak at both Sunday services about this ministry which provides direct relief to the poor throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Father Horvath will share what he has witnessed about Food for the Poor’s mission to care for the destitute as a means of living out the gospel mandate to love one another. Looking for Your Opinion

In our search for a new bishop, the Diocese of Upper South Carolina will create a profile of who we are and what kind of bishop we are seeking. On Sunday, April 19th, the diocese will conduct an on-line survey to create this profile. All members of the diocese, lay and ordained, are asked to complete the survey by going to www.edusc.org on the internet. If you do not have access to the internet from your home, St. Paul’s will be open from the conclusion of church that morning until 3:00PM for anyone that would like to use our computers. If you would like a paper copy of the survey, please let Rev. Sally know. A limited number of paper copies are available but she will have to request them from the diocese.
